Stephen Lewis, Owner/Founder

Horizon Senior Services is owned by Stephen Lewis. Stephen is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Spartanburg with a BS in Business Administration/Accounting. Stephen has worked with the Elderly just about all of his life. Growing up Stephen worked at his Father's pharmacy that provided medications to Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities. After college Stephen began his own career in Geriatrics as the accountant in a Nursing Home. Stephen then pursued his Nursing Home Administrators License and became a licensed Administrator in 1999. Stephen spent the next nine years as an Administrator giving him invaluable knowledge and experience for meeting the needs of the elderly. Stephen's hope is that the clients of Horizon Senior Services will receive services that will help them to maintain their dignity and independence at home. With Stephen's background, knowledge and resources he can work with you to insure that you receive the services you need.

Laura Lewis, Business Office Manager

Laura Lewis has worked with kids for most of her career as a parent of 3 daughters and as a pre-school teacher. Her career shifted to working with the elderly when her husband Stephen decided to start their own business, Horizon Senior Services. Laura's role at Horizon Senior Services is to manage the office and keep everyone organized. Laura also assists with the hiring process. She makes sure that every prospective employee has been through the proper screenings required before they are hired and placed with a client. The support and organization that she brings to the team is invaluable. You may also find Laura out in the field taking clients to appointments or other activities.

Kay Scherzer, Supervisor

Kay Scherzer has over 16 years experience working with adults and children. She has worked as an administrator of a counseling center as well as being a caregiver in client's homes. Kay has training and experience as a social worker. One of Kay's expertises is recognizing and effectively dealing with elder abuse. Kay's responsibilities at Horizon Senior Services include hiring and supervising a large staff of caregivers and making sure all shifts are staffed with employees best suited for each individual clients needs. She also makes sure the clients are satisfied with the services we provide. Kay's favorite part of her job is building relationships with the clients and their families.

Judi Cote, Clinical Director

Horizon Senior Services is dedicated to being the best provider of homecare services in the Charleston Lowcountry. Our caregivers are required to attend a continuing education class once a quarter. We are proud that we have Judi Cody, Clinical Director, as a part of our team to conduct and oversee this program. Judi is also available to do assessments and medication management for our clients. This service allows us to insure quality care to those clients that need it the most. Judi has over 20 years experience in the healthcare industry. She has worked in hospitals, Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Communities. She has been an instructor in CNA certification programs and Judi is currently contracted with The Charleston County School District to teach High School students who are interested in jobs within the healthcare community. Judi is the owner of her own consulting firm called A Wing and a Prayer.

Angela Garrett, Regional Director

Angela Garrett has been a Registered Nurse since 1997. Her nursing experience includes working with Seniors in assisted living communities, medication management and administration, and RN assessments. Angela has also worked in skilled nursing facilities promoting health of our elderly population and assisting with rehabilitative services. She enjoys taking time to appreciate each Senior she meets by listening and addressing their needs. Angela has been a South Carolina resident for over thirty years and especially enjoys the beautiful Lowcountry and the variety of activities offered here. She looks forward to meeting you and your loved one!

At Horizon Senior Services Angela is the Regional Director for the north area of the Charleston Tri-County area.

James Jackson, Scheduling Supervisor

James Jackson earned two associates in Business Management and General Business at Trident Technical College in 2005. He worked as a General Manager in retail for 5+ years. James decided he wanted to do something a little more meaningful and pursued nursing by attending the CNA program at Trident Technical College. After completing his training James worked at National Healthcare Corporation (NHC), formally known as Trinity Mission, as a CNA. Now, he is part of a great team here at Horizon Senior Services. "My reason for pursuing this career change is because of my passion of helping and caring for all seniors."

At Horizon Senior Services James is the Scheduling Supervisor. He is responsible for making sure that our more than 70 caregivers are where they need to be. It is not only his responsibility to get them where they need to be but he also takes pride in making sure that there is a good match between the caregiver and client. There are a lot of different personalities and needs and it is critical that we send the right employee to meet each individuals personal needs.
